Burke P. Bear and Burke Derr's family came into my life about 10 years ago.  I was online looking for a particular bear that I was looking to add to my Boyds teddy bear collection, when I stumbled across Burke P. Bear, The Million Dollar Bear Campaign, and the Derr family story. 

 

Shortly thereafter, I became the host for Burke P. Bear for the State of Maine.  I convinced a friend of mine to go on a road trip across the state with me and introduce Burke to many of the retailers throughout Maine. We also visited a few hospitals that had childrens wards to educate them about Burke and his mission.  My employer at the time was able to contribute to the Million Dollar Bear Campaign and I was able to personally meet Bob & Linda Derr at a bear signing in Connecticut.
